About the opportunity

We’re looking for a seasoned, hands-on Senior Accounting Manager to own the Accounting function and scale it with the company. Reporting to the VP of Finance and as Hungryroot’s first dedicated Accounting leader, you will work in conjunction with our external accounting firm to insure integrity of all aspects of the company’s accounting and finance operations going forward. You will lead all accounting operations, technical accounting, tax and financial reporting as well as provide reliable and substantiated guidance on GAAP-compliant industry practices. A track record as a dedicated, proactive and positive team player, as well as a passion for health, wellness and craveable food is required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee/perform all accounting transactions including, but not limited to: A/R, A/P, GL, payroll as well as own the entire month-end and year-end closes
  • Proactively identify issues and areas for improvement within the close process and implement process improvements
  • Prepare and publish accurate monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
  • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Lead the external audit of the company’s financial statements, including the preparation of audit schedules and responding to auditor questions and requests
  • Develop proper GAAP-based accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accurate and thorough documentation of each to ensure effective control and reporting in accordance with GAAP


  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • CPA with “Big 4” experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
  • QuickBooks experience required and experience with ERP implementation preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and key principles of application for a wide array of finance and accounting areas
  • Energetic, execution-oriented, “do-er” with previous experience in, and passion for, entrepreneurial environments (ecommerce experience a plus)
  • A motivated, positive, proactive and transparent attitude
